Qohèleth is
a ministry. It is an extension of what God has done in the life of its Founder,
Orlando Pimentel Sanchez. When Orlando became a Christian, he left behind a very dark,
self-centered lifestyle and was refocused by God to serve the needs of others.
The love
of Jesus Christ in his own life grew to a desire, a mission to spread God’s
word by first providing the essentials for living: food and clothing. He began
on the streets, and grew to include a large-scale food distribution that
continues to this day on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
Over
35 years, he has found supporters and prayer partners to make a
“multiplication” ministry that uses donations or purchased food, and adds
volunteers and vehicles to meet needs at the distribution, and in neighborhoods
in Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, and across Orange County.
From the beginning, it has been a ministry, a work set apart to bring glory to Jesus Christ. From the beginning, it has been dependent on God’s provision, His blessings, to meet the needs of people. What began with the most fundamental needs, food to address hunger, has matured to include all of the need of life – physical, mental and spiritual.
Our experience is that health is not just food for the body, but includes help in dealing with problems, and with hope for a future. Qohèleth seeks to “see” each person as unique, to recognize them and treat them with dignity, and to encourage them to seek true life as well as physical life.

Why do the
volunteers come? What do they give their labors to? It is a service to
‘rendered to God’ and done to honor Him.
For I
was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a
stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me
clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited
me.’
“And
the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least
of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’
Matthew25:35-36,

This
is the expression of Community, and obedience to care for the poor. The
blessings received are distributed to anyone, without cost, and with love.
Just
as important, the Volunteers find joy in serving others. Over time, this has
been something that families have shared, bringing their kids to ‘see’ their
parents serving…and allowing them to grow up with service to the community as a
key value.
Donors
Over
the years, God has moved people to join with us financially to continue the
work. A portion of the money buys food or food cards for distribution. The rest
is spent on warehouse, vehicles, insurance and gas to support the distribution
of food.
Some
have joined for a season, or for a specific project (vehicles, repair needs,
pallet jacks). And a precious few have made Qohèleth a regular part of their
support. Again, this is motivated by the desire to honor God and to meet the
needs of people in His name.
Partners
God has
also made connections with other organizations and ministries, making us the
recipients of blessings of first quality produce and food, clothing, and
personal items (i.e. diapers) and other blessings ( cars ,building homes and
many others )
These
relationships have allowed us to multiply the blessings to serve even more
families.
There
is a different blessing for these partners and donors in the promise that God
will repay generosity, blessing the giver.

Give
generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in
everything you do. There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is
why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites
in need.

You
must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or
in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God
will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you
need and plenty left over to share with others.

¿Por qué servimos?
Qohéleth es un ministerio. Es una extensión de lo que
Dios ha hecho en la vida de su Fundador, Orlando Pimentel Sánchez. Cuando Orlando
se convirtió al cristianismo, dejó atrás un estilo de vida muy oscuro y
egocéntrico y Dios lo reorientó para servir las necesidades de los demás.
El amor de Jesucristo en su propia vida creció hasta
convertirse en un deseo, una misión de difundir la palabra de Dios
proporcionando primero lo esencial para vivir: comida y ropa. Comenzó en
las calles y creció hasta incluir una distribución de alimentos a gran escala
que continúa hasta el día de hoy el segundo sábado de cada mes.
Durante 35 años, ha encontrado partidarios y compañeros de oración para realizar un ministerio de “multiplicación” que utiliza donaciones o alimentos comprados, y agrega voluntarios y vehículos para satisfacer las necesidades en la distribución y en los vecindarios de Costa Mesa, Santa Ana y en todo el condado de Orange.
El nombre, Qohèleth, es una transliteración de una
palabra hebrea del libro de Eclesiastés y significa "El que difunde la
noticia", es decir, el evangelio.
Las sedes del Reparto han sido iglesias y colegios
cristianos de la zona.

El trabajo del ministerio
Desde el principio ha sido un ministerio, una obra apartada para traer gloria a Jesucristo. Desde el principio, ha dependido de la provisión de Dios, de Sus bendiciones, para satisfacer las necesidades de la gente. Lo que comenzó con las necesidades más fundamentales, alimentos para abordar el hambre, ha madurado hasta incluir todas las necesidades de la vida: físicas, mentales y espirituales.
Nuestra experiencia es que la
salud no es sólo alimento para el cuerpo, sino que incluye ayuda para afrontar
los problemas y con esperanza para el futuro. Qohéleth busca “ver” a cada
persona como única, reconocerla y tratarla con dignidad y alentarla a buscar la
vida verdadera además de la vida física.

Voluntarios en Servicio
¿Por qué vienen los voluntarios? ¿A qué dedican
su trabajo? Es un servicio que “prestamos a Dios” y lo hacemos para
honrarlo.
Porque tuve hambre y me alimentasteis. Estaba
sediento, y me diste una bebida. Yo era un extraño y me invitaste a tu
casa. Estaba desnudo y me disteis ropa. Yo estaba enfermo, y tu
cuidaste de mi. Estaba en prisión y usted me visitó.
“Y el Rey dirá: ‘Os aseguro que cuando lo
hicisteis a uno de estos mis hermanos más pequeños, a mí lo hicisteis’.

Ésta es la expresión de comunidad y de obediencia al
cuidado de los pobres. Las bendiciones recibidas se distribuyen a
cualquier persona, sin costo y con amor.
Igual de importante es que los Voluntarios encuentran
alegría al servir a los demás. Con el tiempo, esto ha sido algo que las
familias han compartido, llevando a sus hijos a "ver" a sus padres
sirviendo... y permitiéndoles crecer con el servicio a la comunidad como un
valor clave.
Donantes
A lo largo de los años, Dios ha movido a personas a
unirse financieramente a nosotros para continuar el trabajo. Una parte
del dinero compra alimentos o tarjetas de alimentos para su distribución.
El resto se gasta en almacén, vehículos, seguros y gasolina para apoyar la
distribución de alimentos.
Algunos se han incorporado por una temporada, o para
un proyecto concreto (vehículos, necesidades de reparación,
transpaletas). Y unos pocos han hecho de Qohélet una parte habitual
de su apoyo. Nuevamente, esto está motivado por el deseo de honrar a Dios
y satisfacer las necesidades de las personas en Su nombre.
Dios también ha hecho conexiones con otras
organizaciones y ministerios, haciéndonos receptores de bendiciones de
productos y alimentos de primera calidad, ropa y artículos personales (es
decir, pañales) y otras bendiciones (automóviles, construcción de casas y
muchos otros).
Estas relaciones nos han permitido multiplicar las
bendiciones para servir aún a más familias.
Hay una bendición diferente para estos socios y
donantes en la promesa de que Dios pagará la generosidad, bendiciendo al dador.
Da generosamente a los pobres, no de mala gana,
porque el Señor tu Dios te bendecirá en todo lo que hagas. Siempre habrá
algunos en la tierra que serán pobres. Por eso te mando que compartas
libremente con los pobres y con otros más necesitados.

Pero las personas generosas planean hacer lo que es
generoso y se mantienen firmes en su generosidad.
Isaías32:8
Cada uno debe decidir en su corazón cuánto dar.
Y no dé de mala gana o en respuesta a presión. “Porque Dios ama a la
persona que da con alegría”. Y Dios proveerá generosamente todo lo que
necesites. Así siempre tendrás todo lo que necesitas y mucho más para
compartir con los demás.
